Who is Anne Tucker?
Background
My interest in TA started in 1991 when I was working in a part time
management position. I realised I needed a theoretical framework to
understand how to work more effecitively with staff. This was reinforced
as I was developing my business and being asked to assist managers, team
leaders and team members with the various issues they encountered. The
more I looked at the TA theory, the more I liked it's simplicity as well as
its rich depth.
Following a Diploma in Nursing (1981) and a number of years working in hospitals prior to that, I realised my preference was to work with people to find healthy ways of living. This lead me to working as an Occupational Health Nurse within the car industry. Among a range of health issues impacting on managers, employees and their families were the detrimental effects of alcohol and drugs. Many of these people chose to seek professional assistance with considerable success. This interest led to the next job, working as a consultant with the Alcohol Advisory Council. The role involved working with public and private organisations in New Zealand to develop Alcohol and Drug policies and company supported and paid professional counselling for employees.
In 1991, I took a big leap into the unknown and started the business, Stratos Limited. Stratos provided: Employee Assistance Programmes, critical incident debriefing, conflict resolution, a computer based Health & Resilience programme, team building training sessions, and various other training and consulting services. The services were provided to organisations in New Zealand and Australia. Staff numbers ranged from 10,000 to one small organisation with 7 employees.
The aim of all the services was to work with managers and staff so they could have a better work environment and work practices so everyone was appreciated, worked more effectively and efficiently and thereby improve the business performance and service delivery.
After 15 years, I sold the business (2006). The new owner of Stratos continues to grow and develop the services to organisations whose astute managers recognise how important it is to look after their staff because it is not only good for business, but a wonderful way to retain the trust and loyalty of valuable employees.
What have I done since?
